The Giant comes to nest
Atualizado: 30 de Set de 2019
On 19 July 2019 a leatherback turtle was sighted nesting in the Orango National Park, Bijagos archipelago.
This was a rare encounter, as the nesting beaches in the Orango National Park (PNO) are very extensive and some are also used by hippos at night, making it difficult to monitor at night. Therefore, the monitoring of nesting activities here is conducted during the day. This leatherback turtle Dermochelys coriacea was 1.55 meters long and 1.06 m wide. The Institute of Biodiversity and Protected Areas in collaboration with PNO communities ensures the protection of this and other nests until they hatch and release their young
